Deputies: Man Taken Into Custody After Hours-Long Barricade

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a suspect who held a man at gunpoint inside a Westmont home has been taken into custody, and the hostage released.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed to CBS2 that the suspect was apprehended about 11:33 p.m. Tuesday, more than five hours after the situation unfolded in the 1300 block of 109th Place near South Los Angeles.

Deputies initially responded to the location regarding a 911 hang-up call.

According to KCAL9's Brittney Hopper, the call was placed by the suspect's mother who reported a domestic dispute, authorities said.

Deputies said the mother got out of the home, but learned upon arriving on scene, that the suspect was allegedly holding his father at gunpoint.

That man, however, was released about 11 p.m., according to authorities. The suspect was apprehended a short time later.

During the standoff, homes in the area were evacuated.

No injuries were reported.
