Riverside Firefighters Battle Blaze, Exploding Ammunition
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters battling a blaze at a house on the west side of Riverside also had to contend with the sound of exploding ammunition on Sunday afternoon.
There were no injuries reported in the two-alarm fire at 9096 Hope Ave., according to Riverside Fire Battalion Chief Mike Staley. The fire was reported about 12:44 p.m.
A Riverside police officer reported hearing the sound of exploding ammunition while the house was on fire.
The fire, which was about 2 miles northeast of the Galleria at Tyler shopping center, forced the closure of nearby Jackson Street, but it was reopened by 2 p.m.
An arson investigator was on the scene Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
