$10K Reward Offered To Help Solve September Fatal Hit-And-Run

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A $10,000 reward has been offered by LA county leaders to help solve a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in Long Beach in September.

The hit-and-run occurred when Daniel Gomez, 20, attempted to cross Spring St., east of Studebaker Rd., and was fatally struck on September 13.

Two months later, as Gomez' family continues to hold vigils and gatherings to keep his case going, police still have no leads on the driver.

"We think like two months we'd feel better, but we don't, we don't feel better, because we don't have that closure," Daniel's mother Rosi said.

Police say just after midnight on September 13, Gomez was struck by a silver Honda Fit, modeled between 2011 and 2014. Police suggest the vehicle may have visible damage on the driver's side, including possible broken windshield or mirror, or a dented hood.

Rosi says her son was walking home after skateboarding with friends at El Dorado State Park when he was killed.

"When someone says they have your back, they don't really show you that," friend Alex Laird said. "But, he really was always there. He always had the brightest smile."

Those same friends today are championing Gomez' case, continuing to show up at events as they still have hope of the driver being identified.

Gomez had just celebrated his 20th birthday and completed an apprenticeship program to install solar panels.

He was only days away from moving with his older sister to Colorado — his mother says that his bags remained packed, and in the same place he had left them.
