Police Officer Shot, Suspect Killed In San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — An officer reportedly was shot several times in San Bernardino.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 1000 block of East Rialto Avenue, according to San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan.

An undercover officer unit with the Downey Police Department was serving a search warrant for narcotics when they were "immediately met with gunfire," S.B. police Lt. Richard Lawhead said.

An officer was struck in the arm, backside and chest, Lawhead said. He was wearing a protective vest.

The officer was treated and released from a hospital that same night.

"There was one round fired from inside the residence after officers arrived on scene, so we're in the process of securing the residences," Lawhead said.

A neighbor who only wanted to be identified as Bryan told CBS2/KCAL9's Crystal Cruz he heard the gunfire: "Like multiple, around 50...it was a lot."

A suspect was shot and killed in the home's front yard.

Several other suspects have been detained.

A SWAT team entered the residence and allegedly found a large quantity of narcotics inside.

Police roped off surrounding streets to make sure they have all possible suspects in custody, keeping residents waiting outside the perimeter until they conclude their search.
