LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police said a man apparently fatally shot himself in South Los Angeles after firing at officers early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the 6600 block of Denver Avenue around 6:15 a.m. and were confronted by the suspect, who fired at them, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman said.READ MORE: West Valley Animal Shelter Dogs In Quarantine After Outbreak Of Canine Influenza
The officers returned fire, but it was unknown if the suspect was struck, she said.

The man –later identified as 38-year-old Calvin Williams — was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
