Noted Attorney Killed On Halloween 'Made A Huge Difference' In Clients' Lives, Best Friend Says

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A noted immigration attorney killed on Halloween night made a huge difference in his clients' lives, his best friend said Thursday.

John Alcorn was fatally struck Oct. 31 by a vehicle on West Yale Loop and Burwood Street while looking at decorations with his 4-year-old son, John Lincoln. The child remains hospitalized with a skull fracture and broken leg.

The accident happened a few hundred feet from the pair's home.

"If he had been a moment delayed leaving the house, stayed a moment longer where he was, we wouldn't be having this conversation and maybe I'd be on the phone talking to John about something pleasant," Jim McQueen, the victim's best friend, told CBS2's Michele Gile.

The 65-year-old Alcorn was McQueen's best friend and was his officiant at McQueen's wedding in September. They'd seen each other a few hours before Alcorn died.

In addition to his wife and son, Alcorn had two grown daughters and two grandchildren, and there were hundreds of clients whom he represented. Some of his cases even took him to the Supreme Court.

"He's represented thousands of people who were interested in becoming legal citizens or obtaining legal status in the United States and made a huge difference in most of those peoples' lives," McQueen said.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remained under investigation.

The suspected driver, described as a female, was not taken into custody and hasn't been cited, according to Gile.
