Woman Seeks Answers 12 Years After Son's Death

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — Maria Miinster just marked the 12-year anniversary of the killing of her son, which remains unsolved.

"I miss him so much," Miinster told CBS2's Rachel Kim. "There is never going to be closure. Never. They took my son away. He was only 15."

On Nov. 2, 2002, police say, Steven Miinster received a call from an unknown female, who asked him to meet her outside \his house at B Street and Bryce Canyon Avenue in Oxnard.

Around 11 p.m., when he got around the corner, he was shot. Steven later died at a hospital.

"And I went out there. He was laying on the ground on the sidewalk fighting for his life that someone took," his mother recounted.

Authorities are still searching for a motive and Steven's killer. Police say the teen had a learning disability and was not associated with gangs.

But Miinster tells CBS2 that there was a lot of gang activity in her neighborhood.

"I just think he was at the wrong place at the wrong time," she said.

After investigators recently received tips about Steven's murder, Oxnard hopes a $10,000 reward will finally give Miinster some answers.

"I just want them to pay so he could see what he done to me. To my family," she said.
