IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A 4-year-old boy remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition Saturday after being hit by a vehicle while trick-or-treating with his father last night.

According to the Irvine Police Department, officers were sent around 7:15 p.m. Friday for reports of an injury traffic collision in the area of West Yale Loop and Burwood Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the young boy and his 65-year-old dad were crossing the street when a female driver of a Mazda 3 collided with them.

Both victims sustained significant injuries and were transported to a hospital.

At 8:40 p.m. officials pronounced the adult victim, John Roger Alcorn, deceased.

All traffic on West Yale Loop between Warner and Stone Creek North was shut down in both directions while the collision was investigated. It has since reopened.

The female driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were made.
