Former Medical Billing Company Employee Sentenced To Prison In Identity Theft Case

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 35-year-old woman was sentenced to prison Friday for using fraudulently obtained credit card numbers and identities to pay for various personal items.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Reon Jordan of Los Angeles, was ordered to spend four years and four months in state prison in local custody. She was also ordered to pay $18,015 in restitution.

Jordan pleaded no contest to one felony count each of grand theft, second-degree commercial burglary and identity theft.

Jordan was arrested on March 4, following a nine-month investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Community College Bureau.

According to detectives, Jordan used fraudulently obtained credit card numbers and identities to purchase gift cards to pay her tuition at West Los Angeles Community College, hair extensions and other items.

Since 2008, she was employed by ABEO, a medical billing company with offices in Pasadena. There, Jordan had access to thousands of client identity profiles.

At the time of her arrest, officers said she had more than 400 identity profiles and 200 additional credit card numbers in her possession.

Victims of the scheme were located in Los Angeles, Torrance, Santa Monica, Topanga, Malibu, Mammoth Lakes, Tennessee and Mississippi.

Jordan paid $8,000 at Friday's court hearing, the district attorney reported.
