Water Main Break Leaves Dozens Of Silver Lake Residents Without Service

SILVER LAKE (CBSLA.com) — Residents in one Silver Lake neighborhood may not have water in their pipes until Thursday afternoon following a water main break.

KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reports the break along the 3000 block of Castle Street near Silver Lake Boulevard was spewing water, mud and asphalt into the roadway starting early this morning.

DWP officials say the break - which was first reported around 12:40 a.m. - involves an 8-inch cast-iron pipe that supplies water to about 50 homes in the neighborhood.

As of 6:20 a.m., water service had been shut off while crews repaired the main.

No property damage was reported.

Resident Steve Andrews, who lives in the area, said this wasn't the first time he's woken up to zero water pressure.

"It's happened I think three times on this street," said Andrews. "It's an ongoing problem with the aging infrastructure we have in this city."

DWP officials told Carrero while the department does have a list of the most troublesome pipes across the city that are in need of being replaced, they could not confirm whether the line on Castle Street was one of them.
