Teenage Girl's Shirt Slashed In Attack By 3 Men Near Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — A 16-year-old girl walking to school escaped serious injury Thursday when a man walked up to her in the South Whittier Heights area and slashed her shirt with a knife.

The girl was walking in the area of Colima and Leffingwell roads when a four-door black vehicle pulled up and one of three suspects got out and made contact with her, sheriff's Sgt. Jose Navares said.

"She tried to avoid them and one of the males began swinging a knife and slashed her shirt," he said.

The girl ran away, and the suspects fled the scene, he said.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the location at 7:24 a.m., about 30 minutes after the attack. It was unclear why the teenager waited that long to inform authorities.

Navares said the girl was either en route to a bus stop or walking to a friend's house to get a ride to school, which is in nearby Whittier.

Two of the suspects were described as 30 to 40 years old, heavy set men about 5-foot-10. The third suspect was described as a 5-foot-7 man about 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about the attack can call the sheriff's Norwalk station at (562) 863-8711.
