LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — KCAL9 Political Reporter Dave Bryan moderated a debate Thursday between two men vying for the congressional seat previously filled by retiring Democrat Henry Waxman.

The contest between Republican Elan Carr and Democrat Ted Lieu has been called fierce and hotly contested.

The district runs from Malibu to the Palos Verdes Peninsula to Hollywood.

The debate began at 9:30 and lasted about 20 minutes.

The candidates discussed abortion, minimum wage, immigration, climate change, the Middle East and other issues vital to Southern California voters.
