Charity Works To Bring Toys, Comfort Items To Hospitalized Children
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Starlight Foundation has partnered with the Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA to create a more relaxing environment for their young patients.
The charity is bringing toys and other items to the hospital to make a prolonged stay more enjoyable for children.
"We have kids in isolation that aren't able to leave their rooms, don't get a lot of social contact and they need things to do and Starlight jumps on that," said Kellye Carroll, the hospital's child life director.
The foundation also recently launched a program called "Wish Lists" to help with pediatric care.
"So donating like this has never been done before. It's basically like a registry," Starlight Global CEO Jacquie Hart said. "Yes, it's the world's first technology platform committed to care for pediatric patients worldwide. You can pick the name of the facility, the location, you can see what all of their needs are."
Once an item is selected from the list, the donor gets an immediate tax receipt and the purchase is sent to facilities like Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA.
