15-Year LA Deputy City Attorney Admits To Possessing Child Pornography

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A veteran Los Angeles deputy city attorney pleaded no contest Tuesday to possession of child pornography.

Christopher Richard Garcia, 57, will lose his law license, have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, undergo sex offender counseling, and serve five years on probation, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Garcia was advised before entering his plea to the felony charge that he would lose his license to practice law, Deputy District Attorney Samer Hathout said.

Garcia had been with the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office for 15 years, according to spokesman Rob Wilcox. He was placed on administrative leave when the City Attorney's Office became aware of the allegations, he said.

A search warrant was served last November at Garcia's San Pedro home, and child pornography images were found on his computer, prosecutors said.

A second count filed last month against Garcia for distributing child pornography was dismissed.
