New App To Feature Medical Marijuana Home Delivery In LA

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A new smartphone app will help users of medical marijuana have their medicinal pot delivered directly to their front door, through LA's new medical marijuana delivery service.

For years, medical marijuana was solely purchased at specific dispensaries. However, with the new smartphone app, called 'Nestdrop', medical marijuana can be bought over the phone and delivered.

"We're entrepreneurs, and we saw a need in the market, and we decided to fill that need," Nestdrop co-founder Roddy Rodnia said. "We want to make it more convenient for the people who are dealing with certain types of ailments, and we want to make it easier for them to be able to get their medication without having to make an awkward trip out to the store."

Nestdrop works by partnering with dispensaries, who will deliver throughout the Los Angeles area within an hour. The laws of medical Marijuana still apply to users of the app.

"We're happy to say that we're the first app to do this," co-founder Michael Pycher said. "There's no way to screw around with the law here, so you have to do everything that we normally would, we're just giving you a new platform to do it. So you have to have your state-issued photo ID, your medical Marijuana card, and your doctor's recommendation."

Identification must also be presented upon delivery.

A number of employees in the dispensary industry, meanwhile, say they are in support of the idea.

"The (number of) people who still want the delivery service is very small compared to the people that want to come and see it themselves," Compassion Union Dispensary's Paizley Bradbury said. "So I don't think it's going to be a competitive thing."

The app is expected to launch within the next couple of weeks, though at least one legal analyst says we will have to wait and see how regulations play out.
