Fundraiser Held In Mission Viejo For Family Of Teen Killed In Irvine Fiery Crash
MISSION VIEJO (CBSLA.com) — A fundraiser was being held Wednesday to help a family pay for a funeral for a teenage girl killed in a fiery crash in Orange County.
The family of Jenny Campos was holding a fundraiser at TK Burgers in Mission Viejo until 9 p.m.
Campos was one of five victims, who were between the ages of 14 and 15, killed in the crash that took place in the early morning hours of Oct. 4 on the 5 Freeway at the Route 133 connector.
Officials said the vehicle, which was being driven by a 16-year-old unlicensed driver, drifted off the road for an unknown reason and hit a guardrail before slamming into a concrete retaining wall. It then burst into flames trapping the five passengers — Campos, Alex Sotelo, Matthew Melo, Brandon Moreno and Jenny Bahena.
The driver, Bradley Morales, who was the sole survivor, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a serious skull fracture and had to undergo brain surgery.
Morales' parents could face criminal charges if investigators determine they were aware he was driving without a license.
