NYC Fire Captain Charged With Sex Crimes Against 2 Children In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A New York City fire captain has been charged with sexually molesting two boys while visiting the Southland earlier this month.

Wilbert Riera, 51, was arrested Saturday and faces six felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, Riera was visiting Hollywood when the crimes occurred between Sept. 12 and 14.

Riera, who is a 21-year veteran of the NYFD, appeared in a New York court Monday where he waived his right to extradition.

Prosecutors plan to ask bail to be set at $2.6 million when he returns to Los Angeles later this week.

If convicted, Riera faces up to life in state prison.

He has been suspended without pay from the NYFD for 30 days pending the charges.
