Former Nurse Gets 34 Years To Life In Prison For Sexually Assaulting 3 Male Patients

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A former nurse was sentenced Friday to 34 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting three male patients.

Richard Alan Nolan, 49, of Buena Park, was convicted June 21, 2013 of several felonies, including forcible oral copulation, sexual battery by fraud and sexual battery on an institutionalized victim.

Nolan worked at Western Medical Center in Anaheim for about five years. His vocational nurse license was suspended Oct. 26, 2010 and it expired on June 30, 2012, Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez said.

Nolan performed oral sex on two male patients in 2009, the prosecutor said. Both patients were asleep at the time, but one who had been sedated woke up to see the defendant "in the middle of the act," Rodriguez said.

On July 29, 2010, Nolan posed as a doctor performing an examination, but instead masturbated the third victim, he said.

At the sentencing hearing, one victim described Nolan as a "monster who violated a position of trust to take advantage of people in their most vulnerable state."
