Worker Burned In 'Flashover' Explosion While Delivering Propane To Boyle Heights Business

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A worker delivering propane to an industrial customer in Boyle Heights Tuesday was critically burned in a "flashover" explosion.

Paramedics responded to Ekco Metals in the 1700 block of South Perrino Place about 11:50 a.m. and found a man with burns over most of his body, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The man was taken to a hospital.

The man was driving a "large single tank propane service truck," and was filling a large tank when the accident occurred, Humphrey said.

The man, about 40, suffered second- and third-degree burns, Humphrey said.

Humphrey said the circumstances of the accident are under investigation and Cal/OSHA has been notified.
