SUV Crashes Into Santa Ana House

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) —  A man driving a SUV crashed into a single-family Santa Ana home, authorities said.

The driver, the vehicle's sole occupant, had to be extricated from the car.

Officials also tried to carefully remove the vehicle fearing the roof was in danger of collapsing.

The 25-year-old driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his Chevy Trailblazer, said Corporal Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. while the vehicle was headed north near the 1400 block of N. Eudlid Street.

Authorities said the man crashed the SUV through the home's living room.

One person was at home of the time of the crash, but they were uninjured, Bertagna said.

Police also theorized the driver might have had a medical issue before crashing. They do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, Bertagna said.

The driver was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center complaining of pain.

Firefighters were also called to put out some flames that spread from the vehicle to the home, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said.
