Millions Of Gmail Addresses, Passwords Posted On Russian Bitcoin Forum

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Millions of Gmail accounts could be at risk Wednesday after a list of 5 million email addresses and their passwords were posted on a Russian Bitcoin forum.

The list, which also contains user credentials for Russia's largest search engine, was first reported by the Russian news website CNews. The compromised accounts include English, Russian and Spanish speaking users of Google services.

CNews reported that while the forum user who posted the list said 60 percent of the addresses and logins are valid, experts believed most of the information was stolen from users at different times by using viruses or "phishing" techniques over several years.

According to multiple reports, there is no evidence that Google itself was compromised.

Users who feel their accounts may have been compromised should change their passwords immediately and enable 2-step verification.
