Authorities said Soto was discussing his marriage with his wife when he said he was going to kill himself. She said he raised the rifle to his head but they struggled for the weapon and one round went off in the ceiling of their home.

The man’s wife said she ran and he fired a round in her direction but missed. He then turned the gun on himself and shot himself once in the stomach.

Police said the couple’s two teenage daughters were home at the time of the shooting. The children were not involved in the altercation or injured, authorities said.
