O.C. To Take Advanced Measures To Eradicate West Nile Virus In Wake Of 3 Deaths
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Orange County is dealing with the worst case of West Nile virus in its history and this week, vector control will begin spraying neighborhoods with pesticides.
Plans to spray select neighborhoods in the city of Santa Ana were pushed to Tuesday due to weather conditions.
The mosquito eradication efforts are expected to run through Thursday between the early morning hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Officials plan to wait to see whether their efforts are successful before spraying in Anaheim, Fullerton, and Orange.
This year alone, 91 people in Orange County have been infected with the virus as compared to 12 cases in 2013.
Officials report that three people died from the virus in 2014. The fatalities included a man in his 50s from Santa Ana; a woman in her 80s from Seal Beach; and a man in his 70s from Huntington Beach.
