Nine-Hour Standoff Ends At Calabasas Recording Studio

CALABASAS (CBSLA.com) — An overnight standoff at a recording studio on Mulholland Highway ended peacefully early Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

During a Friday night argument with another employee at the American Recording studio in the 22300 block of Mulholland Highway, the suspect allegedly produced a gun, according to Deputy Peter Gomez of the Headquarters Bureau. He then ordered everyone out of the building at about 7:30 p.m., said Sgt. Edward Sheridan of the Malibu/Lost Hills Station.

The second employee was able to call authorities after exiting the building, Gomez said.

Negotiations continued through the night before authorities "coaxed" the suspect out of the building with gas at around at 4:40 a.m., Deputy Trina Schrader said.

The unidentified man, thought to be in his 30s, faces charges of threatening harm and brandishing a gun, Schrader said.
