Long Beach Residents Prepare For More High Surf
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Long Beach residents Friday were preparing for another few days of high water levels as Hurricane Norbert moves its way up the coast of Mexico.
Emergency workers were fortifying sand berms along the southeast part of the area as the storm surge was expected to increase Friday through Monday. A high surf advisory was in place for Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oxnard and Torrance through 6 a.m. Monday.
"Being able to keep the water on the beach is our goal, and they've been doing a great job of it," Rick Brizendine said.
Residents will be able to fill empty bags with sand starting at 9 a.m. at Ocean Boulevard and 72nd Place as well as at Ocean Boulevard and Claremont Avenue. Shovels will not be provided and there will be a 10-bag limit.
Hurricane Norbert is not expected to be as strong as Hurricane Marie that caused waves to reach 10 to 15 feet, dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding last week.
