Police: Man Sexually Assaults 11-Year-Old Girl In Her Bed During Burglary

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A man is in jail Tuesday after sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in her bedroom, police said.

Authorities say the assault occurred about 2 a.m. after Luis Contreras, 18, burglarized a home on Rose Avenue and then broke into a second home on Barnett Street.

Contreras is accused of tearing open a screen door before sexually assaulting the child, whose 6-year-old brother was also in the bedroom.

The victim's father said he never saw the man but came running once he heard his daughter's screams.

"She (was) screaming, when he was going to the bedroom, she (was) screaming," the father said. "We didn't see anybody, (we didn't see) who it was, just my daughter was screaming our name."

Police say Contreras ran as soon as the girl started screaming.

"She's feeling very, very bad," her father said. "I don't know what's going to happen this night, probably (she'll) have some dreams."

Investigators say Contreras then broke into another home, where the homeowner confronted him before he again escaped.

A responding police officer then saw Contreras on a bicycle and arrested him on burglary and sexual assault charges.

Contreras was being held at the Ventura County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Detectives were investigating similar crimes that have occurred in the area over the past year and believe there may be more victims.

Anyone with information should contact Oxnard police at (805)385-3921.
