MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — A surfer who was pulled from rough waves in Malibu was identified Friday.

Silverio Laconsay, 54, was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water near Malibu Pier. Lifeguards say he was in full cardiac arrest.

Coroner’s officials say his cause of death has not yet been established.

Hurricane Marie off the coast of Mexico prompted a high-surf advisory for most of Southern California’s beaches Tuesday, with swells of 10 to 15 feet. The strong waves caused flooding in Long Beach and Seal Beach and forced the closure of Malibu Pier, where seven pylons were damaged.
