Elderly Couple Demands LAPD Fix Their South LA Home After After Raiding It

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An elderly couple Friday was demanding that the Los Angeles Police Department fix their home after officers allegedly unnecessarily damaged it.

The LAPD served a search warrant Aug. 22 at the Johnsons' house in the 3900 block of South Halldale Avenue in South Los Angeles, officials said.

Officers said they were searching for their grandson's cellphone, computer and speaker box after the 18-year-old was taken into custody for an unknown reason.

The Johnsons claim the LAPD battery rammed almost every door in their home and dismantled and tinkered with their home surveillance system.

Although the retired couple was removed from the residence when the LAPD arrived, officers told witnesses they knocked down the doors to make sure no one was inside for their safety.

Home security footage posted on YouTube shows officers tampering with the video camera, and in other video clips officers were allegedly seen "hanging out" inside, according to the Johnsons.

The couple's grandson was later released, and they said officers did not tell them whether or not the items were found but mentioned they'd be back and do it again if the grandson returned home.

The LAPD refused to provide them with contact information other than an email address, the Johnsons said.
