Arrest Made In Fatal Hit-And-Run Collision With Man In Wheelchair

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old Fullerton man is in custody on suspicion of a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a man in a wheelchair.

Brandon Joel Busse was arrested Saturday night in a Tustin motel in connection with an Aug. 18 collision that killed 49-year-old Marc Borgfield of Buena Park. Investigators tracked down the suspected Ford Explorer in the motel's parking lot, according to Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel.

Borgfield was struck by the vehicle just before midnight at 2613 Orangethorpe Ave. and thrown 170 feet. Police said Borgfield appeared to have been outside a crosswalk when he was hit.

The suspect's vehicle was caught on surveillance video, prompting police to release a photo and ask the public to be on the lookout for a 1991-94 white Ford Explorer with significant front-grill damage.

Borgfield was struck by a vehicle near the same location on March 3, according to Hamel. At that time, his blood-alcohol level was 0.36, more than four times the legal limit for driving, she said.

The victim was struck by another vehicle in Buena Park in March 2008, and had been drinking prior to that collision as well, Hamel said.
