Obscenity-Laced Rap Video Believed To Threaten Police Officers

MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A new obscenity-laced rap video from a rapper who claims to be related to an unarmed man who was shot to death by the LAPD appears to threaten the lives of police officers.

A rapper who goes by the name Ceebo made the video, titled "F--- Tha Police," and features footage of the crime scene where 25-year-old Ezell Ford was shot by Los Angeles police officers. Ceebo claims to be Ford's cousin.

"This is not making it better," said Tyler Izen, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League.

Ford, who family members say was bipolar and schizophrenic, was shot three times on Aug. 11 and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Ford's death has prompted several weeks of protests in South Los Angeles.

But a rap video using obscenities and hand gestures is just making police officers more nervous.

"It's at least a veiled threat against the police department to avenge the death of somebody they lost 10 days ago," Izen said.

Through an attorney, the Ford family said, "We disavow any violence against police. The truth will be heard in court."

The Ford family attorney would not confirm or deny any relationship with Ceebo.

In the meantime, Izen says he hopes people who see the video to not let it fuel the fire.

"I would encourage anyone who's watching that video or following that video, not to take that as a call to arms," he said.
