SANTA MONICA ( — Dunkin’ Donuts, an East Coast staple, announced its plans on Friday to open a franchise in Santa Monica next month.

The doughnuts-and-coffee chain said in a news release that the Santa Monica location at 1132 Wilshire Boulevard will open to the public at 5 a.m. on Sept. 2.

“There is incredible passion for Dunkin’ Donuts in California, and we are thrilled to bring the brand to Santa Monica,” said Gary Haar, who is expected to operate the Santa Monica location.

The news release indicated that the first person in line on that day will receive free coffee for a year, while tote bags with goodies will be handed out to the first 100 people in line.

“We’ve been asked to bring Dunkin’ Donuts back to Los Angeles for many years and we’re proud to announce that the first full expression restaurant is opening in Santa Monica ahead of schedule,” said Paul Twohig, President, Dunkin’ Donuts US and Canada, and Dunkin’ Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Europe and Latin America.

Back in June, the company announced plans to open locations in Downey, Long Beach, and Whittier by the end of this year. In the coming years, the company also says it plans to develop dozens of new restaurants in Southern California.
