Man Gravely Injured In South Park Duplex Fire

SOUTH PARK (CBSLA.com) — A man Monday was gravely injured in a fire at a small duplex.

The fire was reported just before 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of W. 50th Street in South Park, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

During a search of the 500 square-foot unit, firefighters found a man who was not breathing in a hallway.

Firefighters "rendered immediate CPR and Advanced Life Support medial aid on scene" and transported the man to a local hospital in grave condition, officials said.

It took 40 firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.

"One smoke alarm was located inside the residence, however it does not appear to have been functioning at the time of the fire," the LAFD said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation by the LAFD's Arson Section.

Damage estimates were not available.
