Man, 26, Critical After Being Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting In Ventura

VENTURA (CBSLA.com)  —  Police in Ventura said they shot and wounded a 26-year-old man who hit officer with his vehicle while driving recklessly.

The incident happened about 3:45 .m. at Figueroa Street and Harbor Boulevard, authorities said.

Officials said the man was driving a red truck, recklessly, including trying to pass several road closures.

After officers stopped the man, they said he accelerated his vehicle in reverse and hit a vehicle. They said the man then put his car in drive and hit an officer -- as well as several parked police motorcycles and a shuttle bus -- as he attempted to flee from the traffic stop.

Officers fired at the suspect's vehicle. The suspect was struck by officer's gunfire and came to a stop.

The suspect was later transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

The officer that was struck by the suspect's vehicle was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. He was later released.

The investigation into this incident is continuing. The police department is asking for any witnesses to contact them.

No other officers or citizens were injured.
