Report: Former 'American Idol' Finalist Dies At 35

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Former "American Idol" finalist Michael Johns has died, according to various reports.

The Hollywood Reporter says Johns, a season 7 top ten contestant, died Friday from a blood clot in his ankle.

TMZ reported Johns had twisted his ankle and was in a great deal of pain. They also said he died in his sleep.

Former "Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TMZ, "He was a great talent and dear friend. My boys and I are devastated."

The Australian-born heart throb came in #8 in the season eventually won by David Cook.

Johns -- born Michael John Lee -- released an album, "Hold Back My Heart," in 2009.

US Weekly reported that Johns just tweeted last week that he was ready to go back into the studio and record a new song called "Reckless."

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Stacey Vuduris, a Hollywood interior designer.
