1 Dead In Fiery 2-Vehicle Crash On 118 Freeway In Granada Hills

GRANADA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said one person was killed Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Granada Hills.

The crash was reported just after 9 p.m. on the westbound 118 Freeway at Balboa Boulevard.

The CHP said all westbound lanes have been closed.

Traffic has been backed up for miles while the investigation into the crash is underway.

Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said one of the vehicles was rear-ended and caught fire after the collision.

It was in that car the occupant was declared dead, Mundel reported.

An unknown number of people were also transported to hospitals, he said.

The condition of the injured is unknown.

By 10 p.m., the CHP had opened one lane.

Initial reports from the scene said three vehicles had been involved.

By 11 p.m. Mundel said the CHP was making most cars exit at Balboa. Cars that had been caught directly behind the accident were stuck for the two hours. Mundel said traffic that had been backed-up was moving "smoothly."
