Man Sought In Covina Sex Assault

COVINA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities sought the public's help Wednesday in identifying a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman in a parking garage.

The crime happened around 4:30 a.m. on June 30 in the 1300 block of W. San Bernardino Road in Covina, police said.

Security video recorded the 28-year-old woman walking into her complex's carport when she noticed that she was being followed by a man.

As the victim was walking through a hallway, the suspect, who had put on a yellow mask or bandana, grabbed her from behind and fondled her.

The woman was fell to the ground and was able to break free after biting her attacker, police said.

Surveillance video later showed the suspect hopping over a security gate and fleeing the scene on foot.

"That makes me very scared. I mean I come home late, also. It could happen to me," complex resident Alexandra Carpio said.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set male Hispanic between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.
