Driver In Fatal DUI Crash Accused Of Leaving Scene With Victim's Scooter Stuck To Pickup's Front End

PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com)  –  The suspected drunk driver in a fatal crash in Palm Springs is also accused of leaving the scene with the victim's scooter lodged in his pickup's front end.

The suspect, David Buckley Doyle, 55, of Palm Springs, was driving south in his 2004 GMC pickup truck on North Indian Canyon Drive at about 11:34 a.m. Friday, Palm Springs Police Lt. Mike Kovaleff said.

Doyle is suspected of slamming into a 2008 Yamaha motor scooter heading in the other direction. The rider was ejected and landed a distance away.

The victim died at the scene, Kovaleff said.

The pickup was recovered in the 1400 block of North Indian Canyon Drive -- bout a mile from the crash site -- with the scooter still "affixed" to the front.

The name of the victim was held pending notification of next of kin.

Doyle was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of drunken driving, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run. He remained in jail Saturday in lieu of $75,000 bail, records showed.
