Police Seek Driver Who Struck 71-Year-Old At South LA Gas Station

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for a driver who struck and injured a 71-year-old man at a South Los Angeles gas station last weekend.

Fernando Valdivia was standing near an island at a Mobil station at 245 W. Slauson Ave. around 12:15 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a pickup.

The motorist stopped briefly before leaving the scene, according to the LAPD's Central Traffic Division.

Valdivia suffered fractures to his left leg and left arm. He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he is stable.

The motorist was described as a Hispanic man, 30-40 years old, about 5-foot-6, 170 pounds with black hair.

The truck was described as a 2000 to 2005 red Chevrolet Silverado with an extended cab.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call Central Traffic Division detectives at (213) 833-3713.
