Elderly Pasadena Woman, Dog, Neighbors Recovering After Attack By Swarm Of Bees

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — An elderly Pasadena woman, her dog, and three neighbors were recovering Friday after they were attacked by hundreds of bees, according to reports.

KNX 1070's Jon Baird reports the 92-year-old victim was watering her lawn around 7 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Anita Street off Glenullen Drive when the attack occurred.

The woman, whose name was not released, may have sprayed a beehive underneath her porch and inadvertently prompted the attack, according to police.

She was stung at least 20 times, while her Chihuahua was heard yelping in pain by neighbors during the attack, it was reported.

Resident Mark Eckert, who lives across the street, said he was also stung repeatedly as he attempted to untie the dog's leash so the animal could run away.

"I ran in and undid the leash, but they were very aggressive bees; they immediately started attacking me and covered me," Eckert said.

Four people were hospitalized and the dog was transported to the Humane Society for medical treatment.
