LA Kings To Play 7 Of 8 Opening Games Of 2014-15 Season At Home

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings are scheduled to play seven of their first eight games of the 2014-15 season at home in Staples Center, according to the revealed complete schedules of all 30 teams.

The NHL declared the home openers for all 30 teams on Saturday, in which the Kings will host the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 8 in a rematch of the first-round series of the playoffs, in which the Kings became the fourth team in NHL history — and fifth in North American professional sports — to rally from a three-game deficit to win a series.

A banner emblematic of the team's second Stanley cup championship in three seasons will be included in the season opener, along with the presentation of players' championship rings.

A Los Angeles Clippers preseason game had originally been scheduled for Staples Center on Oct. 8. However, the team agreed to allow the Kings to play there on the NHL's opening night, according to a Kings official.

The New York Rangers, who fell to the Kings in the Stanley Cup Final, will make their sole appearance of the 2014-15 season at Staples Center on Jan. 8.

Information on tickets will be announced later in the summer.

The Kings have sold out their last 120 regular-season and Stanley Cup Playoff games at Staples Center. The streak began on Dec. 3, 2011.
