Pomona Man Suspected Of Killing Woman Commits Suicide As Officers Close In

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected of killing a woman in Pomona committed suicide as officers closed in on him Friday night.

Officers spotted the man, who they would not identify, leaving a home around 9 p.m. in the 1500 block of San Bernardino Avenue, Pomona Police Department Lt. Chuck Becker said.

When police approached the suspect ran in the opposite direction, along the side of the residence, to the back yard.

Officers say that's when they heard a gunshot ring out and run up to find the suspect on the ground, Becker said.

The man died at the hospital a couple hours later.

Police were pursuing the suspect in connection with the death of 37-year-old Eloisa Salas Lara, who was shot several times Monday morning in the 700 block of San Francisco Avenue, according to news reports.

Officials have detained another man described as a person of interest in the case. He has not been booked.
