LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities said one person was fatally stabbed and another injured in an attack near the Expo Line’s Western Avenue station.

The stabbings took place around 5 a.m., officials said.

The victims were near the tracks at Exposition Boulevard and Western Avenue when a suspect approached them.

The suspect had just exited a vehicle, according to Officer Nuria Vanegas of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

The first victim was able to get away from the attacker after suffering unspecified injuries, but the suspect then fatally stabbed a second, nearby male victim.

The deceased was taken to a hospital by private party, Vanegas said.

No information was available about the suspect, who remains at large, Vanegas said.
