Doctors: Casey Kasem In Critical Condition In Wash. Hospital

SEATTLE (CBSLA.com) — Radio legend Casey Kasem is in critical condition at a Washington hospital, according to doctors at St. Anthony's Hospital.

Kasem was checked-in to the hospital on June 1 and is "currently being treated for a wound infection related to a serious pressure ulcer, commonly referred to as a bed sore which were present when he was admitted," spokesman Scott Thompson said.

The 82-year-old has been at the center of a long-running feud between his wife and children over visitation rights and conservatorship.

Family members say Kasem suffers from Lewy Body Disease, the most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's.

"Mr. Kasem's children – Kerri, Julie and Mike would like thank everyone and express their appreciation for all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes they've received," Thompson added.

Despite being in critical condition, doctors say Kasem is alert and appears to be comfortable.
