Motorist Injured After Swerving To Avoid Downed Power Lines In Dana Point

DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) — A motorist who crashed after swerving to avoid downed power lines at a Dana Point intersection has suffered minor injuries.

Orange County sheriff's Lt. John Roche said the power lines were down in Via Canon, just south of the Camino Las Ramblas exit from the 5 Freeway, at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, causing several drivers to swerve out of the way.

The area was enduring a power outage at the time of the driver's crash, which forced the closure of the freeway off-ramp at Camino Las Ramblas and Via Canon, Roche said.

San Diego Gas and Electric noted two power outages in the area on its website.

One affected 2,039 customers in Dana Point, Capistrano Beach and San Juan Capistrano and the other affected 369 customers in communities near the crash site, City News Service reports.

The website indicated power was scheduled to be restored in both areas by noon Sunday.
