LA KISS To Hold Open Tryouts Sunday

WHITTIER (CNS)   — The Arena Football League's LA KISS plans to hold an open tryout Sunday at Whittier College.

The team said the tryout was largely prompted by the breakout success of defensive back A.J. Cruz.

KISS coach Bob McMillen said Cruz was found at an open tryout and "he's quickly proven an excellent addition for us, both on and off the field."

The registration fee for the tryout is $100. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 8:30 a.m.

Tryouts begin at 9 a.m. Players are asked to bring shoes for field turf, water, tape and identification. (Note: Trainers will not tape players.)

"If we can find another dynamic player like A.J. who can help us with the schedule ahead this was a win," McMillen said. "If we find two, even better."

The KISS, which is in the midst of a bye week, is 2-8 in its inaugural season and has lost seven consecutive games.

"We've had some trouble getting all of the pieces clicking at the right time," McMillen said. "Injuries have hurt us a bit. We've seen flashes of great play across all three phases, but not at the same time. We're evaluating certain things and expect to improve over the course of the next few weeks."

Whittier College's Memorial Stadium is located at 13406 Philadelphia Street in Whittier.
