Crews Battle 6-Alarm Fire At Santa Fe Springs Recycling Facility

SANTA FE SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Crews battled a six-alarm fire at a recycling facility in Santa Fe Springs Thursday.

The blaze erupted at an industrial yard in the 14000 block of Marquardt Avenue, the location of Pan Pacific Fiber Inc., shortly after 6 p.m.

KCAL9's Rachel Kim reports no evacuations had been ordered as of 8 p.m. in the area, located just north of the 5 Freeway.

A Santa Fe Springs Fire Department dispatcher said the flames spread from piles of cardboard and pallets on the facility's grounds into a structure.

Large plumes of black smoke could be seen from miles away.

Crews from the Los Angeles County, Downey, Compton, Montebello and Vernon fire departments were among those responding to the blaze, the dispatcher said.

There was no word on injuries at press time.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
