More Than 340,000 At Risk Of ID Theft After Computers Are Stolen From Medical Billing Office

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities have identified another 3,500 people whose personal information was put at risk by the theft of computers from a medical billing office.

The Los Angeles Times says the figure released Thursday brings the total of potential victims to about 342,000.

Authorities say patient names and addresses may have been taken in the February theft of eight computers from the Torrance office of Sutherland Healthcare Solutions. The company handles medical billing and collections for the county health department.

Sutherland is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and the return of the stolen equipment.

The company also is offering free credit monitoring to potentially affected patients.
