Police Searching For Parolee Who Allegedly Pulled An Assault Rifle On Officer

RIALTO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Wednesday were searching for a parolee who allegedly pulled an assault rifle on an officer in Rialto.

At around 1:45 a.m., police observed two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Pepper and Etiwanda avenues, officials said.

An officer initiated a traffic stop and one of the drivers, identified as Darnell White III, exited a vehicle with a fully loaded assault rifle in his hand.

"The officer believed he was about to be fired upon and fired multiple rounds at the suspect," Sgt. David Shepherd said.

White left the weapon in the vehicle and ran to a nearby residence.

The home was later cleared by the Inland Valley SWAT Team after a search revealed that White had fled.

"The suspect is believed to be injured and officers are actively searching for him," Shepherd said.

The suspect is also wanted for his possible involvement in a drive-by shooting in Rubidoux.

White, who has an extensive criminal history, is considered armed and dangerous.

"Mr. White is a parolee with an extensive violent criminal history involving law enforcement," Rialto police Capt. Randy De Anda said.

Anyone with information should contact police at (909) 421-4990.
