Report: Ex-Lakers Walton, Fisher On Short List For Knicks Coaching Job

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Will a former Lakers head coach look to the purple and gold for his next coaching pick to lead the New York Knicks?

After being spurned by Steve Kerr - who opted to sign a reported five-year, $25 million deal with the Golden State Warriors - Knicks president Phil Jackson is once again looking for a head coach to replace Mike Woodson, who was fired in April.

Kerr had reportedly been the frontrunner to land the job due to his relationship with Jackson from their former Chicago Bulls days, but his decision to head for the Bay Area has lead to reports that Jackson may be considering three former Lakers - Derek Fisher, Luke Walton, and Tyronne Lue - to head the Knicks.

According to ESPN.com, Walton, who worked this season as a developmental coach with the D-League's L.A. D-Fenders, and Lue, an assistant coach for the Clippers, are among a handful of candidates who will receive attention from Jackson.

While Fisher is still playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, he has publicly stated the 2013-14 season will be his last and has long been considered a future star in coaching or player development, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Although other potential candidates likely remain on Jackson's radar - including former Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis and current Denver Nuggets coach Brian Shaw - there was no shortage of reaction on Twitter to the speculation.
