Man Allegedly Tried To Sexually Assault Female Hiker In Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A suspect allegedly attempted to sexually assault a female hiker in Griffith Park.

The LAPD said the victim, who was walking the trails, was approached by a man around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

When the suspect attempted to grope her, she was able to push him away.

The suspect fled the area.

The woman was uninjured.

The suspect was described as Latino, between 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds with a light complexion and a mustache.

Authorities said the incident appears to be isolated, but they want park visitors to be aware of their surroundings, day or night.

"It's scary because we hike all the time in Griffith Park," hiker Tina Avila said. "I feel safe during the day, but I'd think twice now going by myself, especially here."

"Hearing this…it just scares me. Like, what if it happens again?" a woman said.

The news had Eswin Tenas worried about his wife and three daughters.

"I've been here for more than 50 years and I haven't heard anything yet. This is the first time I've heard something," he said.
